I'm picking up my 99 1.8Tqms on Weds. What should
I get with it as far as documentation. Is the range problem fixed on 99's? What about reprogramming the remote? Also, any advice in general would be appreciated.
Thanks

I got my 99 2.8 about a week ago. The remote works from up to approx 50 feet away.
First, congrats.. If your planning to have your car reprogrammed for the different options, you should provide the dealer with all the information and which option you wan't before picking it up.. Thats what I did at least.. The dealer did it without any question...
Dmak 1.8TQMS

Here's why:
1) On my A4, I found a nice group of scratches on the lower right front quarterpanel. If I had noticed them AFTER I had taken shipment, I don't know that the dealer would have taken care of them.
2) A friend of mine (after I had warned him to do so) did not inspect the paint outside in bright light. He picked up his car at night. What was wrong? The person who did the detailing must have used sandpaper to wax the car because there were TONS of scratches all over the paint. It was a dark car, so the swirl marks are very obvious in daylight. There's no way in hell, the dealer will take care of this.
So, in summary, inspect your paint job outside with decent daylight or you may regret it later.
-henri

I agree with Henri's comments - check the paint in sunlight. When I picked up my black A4 I only looked at it in the shade. After getting it home, I found the dealer prep people had scratched the paint in one area, in addition to swirl marks everywhere. There was also a small ding near the trunk. All of these were easy to spot in direct sun, but invisible in the shade.
Enjoy your new A4!
Dave
