The South Texas Audi Gruppe with help and sponsorship from Don McGill Audi is organizing a get-together and driving event for Saturday, April 29th. This is going to be held at Grand Sport Speedway, which is situated at an abandoned WWII blimp base in Hitchcock, toward Galveston, a few miles past the dog track. This will pretty much be an all day event as we have to rent the facility, which will cost about $1000. The pricing per person will depend upon how many entries there are (but less entries = more track time each, so you will get what you pay for). 15 driving participants is a good estimate of the number I expect to drive, so I hope that it ends up costing $70 or less per person. We plan on limiting driving participants to 20, so it will be at least $50. If you don't want to drive, please come out anyway and watch and hang out for a while. We will have some time set aside for people who don't really want to drive, but might be interested in some free or highly reduced fare "fun laps" out on the course. We may also arrange for some catering/BBQ/lunch of some sort depending on turnout (if you're interested in this alone, please let me know).
Speaking of the track, it is where SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) conducts their monthly autocrosses. We will not, however, be running an autocross. Instead, we will close the track into a loop and let 2 or 3 cars out there at a time for several minutes each, so each owner can get about 45 minutes (perhaps more and perhaps even more than that if turnout is low) of track time on the course. Regarding the course, it is about 3/4 mile in length and average speeds will probably be less than 50MPH (with top speeds on the straightaway in fast cars reaching 70MPH), so it's not high speed. Furthermore, there's nothing to collide with or harm that would be done to your car if you were to spin off of the course for some reason (we all know no one would do this). Below are links to a track map and a picture of me participating in an SCCA autocross out there last fall.

If you have interest in this, please let me know ASAP. I really need a headcount for this a few weeks in advance of the event. Please contact me, Lance Pace, if you want more information. I can be reached at 713/226-1340 at work M-F daytime or 281/565-9504 at home, or e-mail me at pacesetters@earthlink.net. Below is link to a map to the site (ignore the Police Academy info).
