96 A4.. if I leave the headlights on and pull out the key and prepare to exit the car. it does not chime like most cars warning you that you left your headlights on.. it does however turn off the main lights just not the parking lights.. should there be a chime??

I recall a chime on my 99.5 along with the main lights going off. Don't if it's suppose to be the same for a 96, but I would guess, it is.

I had my replaced under warranty when the chimes stopped working.

Chimes should work. But, if the car is off warranty it'll probably cost over a thousand dollars to fix. As you have probably heard, the whole instrument cluster has to be replaced.
