I love it. I also love Red Dwarf, but it's not at all the same. Ironic that the good shows are on PBS.
Todd W
I think the NCs forced it off of the air because they couldn't take being mocked (just kidding). :-)
It's a really funny show on PBS. Tooltime meets the Elk Lodge. I think that it has been mentioned on this board before, maybe over the summer.
Todd W
p.s. You need to stay away from the caffeine for a little while :)

Hi Ironmike:
Its really a surprise with the new Jetta. My family first shopped for a Passat V6 GLX and Passat 1.8T GLS with all the luxury equipment, but as most places, Passats are in short supply and most don't sell below MSRP (we are talking about Canada). We also shopped for some bland Japanese sedans (Camry, Accord, Maxima and 3.2TL). Those things are good value for money, but lacks the German fun-to-drive speciality and personality. My parents don't need a really quick sports sedan, they need a reliable family car with fun-to-drive personality.
When the new Jetta launched in Canada in late November. We were so impressed with the quality improvements over the predecessor. There are lighted remote trunk and fuel release, blue analogue gauges and everything seems Audi-like attention-to-details.
First, we were turned off by the VW's 2.0 liter single valver engine. Realistically, the torque more than adequate, especially when we got radered in the uphill section of Seattle area. This engine is much more smoother than I expected, but still not as quiet as Camry, Accord and Altima's 4 banger though.
Handling aside, I tend to disagree with Automobile magazine about its "too soft" handling claim. It feels VW solid, much more firmer than Camry LE in terms of road feels and body roll. Of course, if you go with the VR6, you can go with the optional Sports package.
You won't regard of buying this car, but I think you should look at the new Golf GLS if you think the trunk is not your priority and you want more power from that engine. Other than that, its a wonderful car.
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQM
99 Jetta GLS 2.0

Tom, since you own both I was wondering what your impression of interior size and comfort of both cars is. Dimensionally they are identical, at least according to the brochures. However, numbers can be deceiving. Front and rear legroom "feel" the same? What about rear headroom? Thanks.

Hi Joe:
I think if you are a tall person, you better look at the Passat instead of the Jetta. The rear seat's leg and headroom are both tighter than the Audi A4 and the 3rd generation Jetta. The trunk space is smaller, at the same time. But the front seats are more comfortable than the A3 Jetta. Since I used to own a E36 BMW 318, I personally think the new Jetta's rear space is adequate for most. Some attention to details in the new Jetta is spectacular. There are tweeters on both sides of the rear doors and a slide out cupholders beside the ashtray at the center console for the rear passengers. Since my family members care about drivability than rear seat comfort, so we chose the new Jetta over any Japanese compettiors which have a much more comfortable rear seats at the same price. No matter how you view this car, you won't go wrong with any VW/Audi prodcuts.
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQM
99 JETTA GLS 2.0
