Whenever I drive above 60mph, the noise of the engine or whatever becomes so loud...I took it the dealer and they claimed it's due to the wear of the tire since it's a FWD. Is this really true? If I get new tires, will the noise be gone? Anyone else have the same problem with their 2.0T???

some tires are indeed louder than others.

But, are you hearing tire drone, or engine noise?

the original tires that came with the car when I bought it 1.5 years ago

i think it's the engine sound, but i'm not sure...the ride is just not quiet like it used to be.

louder than normal tire noise. You can often see or feel such uneven wear, the tire won't look smooth and even or the edges will have a bit of uneven lumpiness.
Tire noise relates directly to speed, proportional and often heard as a whine or drone. It would be louder at speed, and won't quiet when the car coasts in neutral as mechanical engine or trans noise should. Some tire noise problems make more sound upon brake application or even cause mild feedback during braking.
I have no A3 tire experience, yet. Your "car vocabulary" suggests that you might benefit from the aide of another friendly, more knowlegable AW member nearby taking a look and listen to your car for you, someone who is neutral on the problem and your wallet, so that you can decide what next. Where do you live?

What we need is one of them to "accidentally" blow up on someone <wink, wink> ;)

the forum for your area, too, to get locals only. You want someone to ride and analyze if the tires are the issue, or something else. Report back, please.

Those tires are garbage. Lots of stories on here of people (myself included) getting new tires when there's plenty of tread on the P6s due to the excessive road noise they generate. Tends to start getting loud between 15k and 20k.

I took my car to the service department twice to get it looked at thinking something was wrong with the ball bearing or something but they told me they were pretty sure it was tire noise.

Just replaced my P6's with Michelin Pilot Exaltos and I can finally hear my music again. You'll be amazed at how quiet your car used to be.

Btw, if the Pilots are too much then check out the General Exclaim UHP. My co-worker got them for his 328i and he loves them.

on this board. Take a look in search. When I replaced mine, I was able to find a lot of good info that had already been posted.

of our Alfas overseas, and it's extremely nice. Quiet, good in tropical downpours, and predictable high speed handling. On the budget end of things, I like the Dunlop SP 8090.

granted, my seat time in some of the other favorites is limited, but... I <3 PS2s.

That's about the value of other class action lawsuits I have seen. 5 million people get a coupon for $5, and 5 lawyers get $10 million each.
