sound good, are bassy, and are affordable. The more I think about it, the less I want to install a subwoofer and box in my trunk. In my old BMW, I had a 6 speaker system made by Alpine that satisfied my desire for bass and was REALLY clear. I'm not all that unhappy with the Concert system. I just hate it when the bass fades out at high volumes. I also think the bass is a bit weak. Which aftermarket speakers have the most bass? I am now thinking about getting a 50X4 amp and replacing the four speakers in the car. $173 for the Sony amp and who knows how much for the speakers. I'd still like to do it all for around $400 including installation. Thanks guys.

BUT you willnot get any bass out of them. How do i know?? I have them the 6-1/2 are great mid bass speakers but they just don't have the surface area to cut it your best bet is to get a 8 or 10" sub and put it in your trunk.

...pretty spendy, and really aren't big on the bass. Certainly not to the extent that Mike seems to want. I have Boston Plates in the back of my 90Q, and they put out pretty good bass. Won't fit in factory spot though. All in all, he'd be out atleast $700 or more with two sets of Boston Pro's and a decent amp. Good Stereo equipment is not inexpensive! :-( Seems to me that the best way to go without spending a lot is to get an amplified subwoofer and just turn down the bass going to the factory speakers. Otherwise, one may as well just replace the whole system!

my friend had the same problem in his accord and he didn't have the money to shell out on a sub
What he did is he got a template for the boston pro 6x9 and cut it out on his rear deck. SOUNDS GREAT they are THE best bass speaker out there they hit harder than my cousins 10" RF and they have brilliant highs and provide very good low end

it sounds like you're looking at paying about $125 for each set of speakers and $150 for the amp to reach your $400 goal. do you plan on leaving the factory tweeters in their door locations? if so, then you'll just be replacing the mids and you can get Kicker or R/F mids for nearly this price range. either of those will increase bass response (remember that a 5-1/4" mid driver will never give you respectable deep bass response{below 60Hz}. you need to move more air to generate the deep frequencies you may be looking for.) BUT, keep in mind that if you change to a new mid w/o changing the tweeter, you may run into frequency response peaks and valleys as a result of running the unmatched components together. they may not sound good...

my recommendation-
if you're happy with the concert sound and just want a little more grunt at the low end, amplify the factory speakers with the 50x4 Sony amp and put a small, removable, self-powered sub in the trunk. Kenwood makes a decent 10" for about $279 and bazooka makes comparable models. they can be quickly removed if you need the trunk space and the footprint really isn't that big. i had the kenwood sub in my GTi and could pull it out w/o tools in under 15 seconds.

you'll be amazed at the difference an amp and a sub will make. and for $400-500, you can't get much more bang for the buck.

When I did that feature article on the massive system in an A4...it was his car...and shop that did it. He has all kinds of opinions on what you CAN do to an A4 to improve sound.

I think his URL is http://www.precision-car.com or http://www.precision-stereo.com
