When is my alarm supposed to activate if I do not arm it manualy? Shouldn't my doors also lock by themselves.

No German car would likey be made with this feature. A forgetful person would lose their car (possibly) to a thief if they forget to lock their car. The same German fellow would self destruct if he had to call for the lock to be popped. The difference is he KNOWS he locked his keys in his car instead of doubting if he had or not locked the car.

You can lock you keys in the car, though. Its more difficult with the A4 as the central locking is up front instead of being integrated in the door plunger as in the case of my 4000. Yes, I was getting my book bag out of the rear, reached in to lock the car via the plunger which activates all 4 doors and slammed the left rear. The German half of me nearly exploded! A strip of aluminum banding and my pocket knife yielded a fine slim-jim, also a product of my German heritage half.

Just another example of fine German engineering.
