View Full Version : What's wrong with this server? The picture poster isn't working nor is the Search engine. Fix-it 09-28-1999, 01:44 PM Steve S. 09-28-1999, 01:51 PM Neil is the controller of the search engine/picture poster/classifieds. It is not on the same server as the forum (I think). Steve S. 97 2.8QM KLHI 09-28-1999, 02:05 PM KLHI 09-28-1999, 02:08 PM true, A4.org readers are not "paying customers", but the banner advertisements on A4.org do make it seem rather commercial. Though I totally disagree with the way in which "Fix-It" has written his post (it totally lacks tact and politeness, IMHO), not to mention the fact that it's in the wrong forum, but I think he has reason to think that A4.org is, in fact commercial. Lastly, though A4.org readers are not exactly "paying customers", we are, to a certain extent, paying for A4.org by allowing ourselves to be exponsed to your advertisers. Each of us have full time employment and work on A4.org as time permits. As such, sometimes things cannot and will not be responded to as quickly as with a bonafide commercial business website. Pls be patient...I have emailed Neil...the keeper of the search/picture poster/classified section of the site. He did have some issues with his ISP at one time. I am not sure what this issue is today. I am just as concerned about this issue as anyone else. Steve S. 97 2.8QM and Consumers R Us 09-28-1999, 05:10 PM Is there Volkwagen money behind this forum? I don't care whose money is behind it, it might be only the advertisers (I doubt it) but this isn't free or put here for my own edification and enjoyment. "Please" would have been nice. but 09-28-1999, 05:13 PM the pretense that this is not a commerical site is offensive. neilm 09-28-1999, 05:27 PM pdw 09-28-1999, 05:53 PM I seriously doubt Jason, Matt, Steve and Neal are coming close to making a profit off this site(taking into account time, isp bills, etc.). If they're not making a profit and there's no chance of making a profit(which I doubt there is) it's not commercial. PBS has commercials on it between the shows. Do you consider that commercial? Steve S. 09-28-1999, 05:57 PM This is an enthusiast's website...that does get some banner advertiser income. If you think it is a lot of money...think again. I work on a commercial website...my "real" job...and I know what kind of revenue can be had if Jason et al would care to go "fully commercial". The people that work on this website, myself included, do not any monetary gain from the work we do. Yes, we are compensated for film we get developed...and to go to the Detroit Auto Show on behalf of the site...but no wages are paid . This site is considerably different and special in many ways. I think Jason/Matt/Neil (the founding fathers) should be commended for the last three years of work on this site. Steve S. 97 2.8QM |
