View Full Version : You have $100k. and you must use it for a car and/or mods for it. What car do you purchase? Given we bought a Ferrari F355 in good condition with full history for less, and then had it serviced (timing belt requires engine out) for less than MSRP on a nicely equipped but not loaded C4S - and given the thrills you can get from the Ferrari, I'm not sure of the value. The Cayman S was much nicer and willing to be playful at lower speeds as well as match the 911 in handling untimately. Drove hubby's boss's 996 GT3 and didn't like it at all. Nose bobbling all over the place like some nervous nelly;-) But to each their own! :-) Bezor 06-25-2007, 06:58 PM Corrado79 06-25-2007, 09:05 PM Other ideas: - S6 (Suzuka Gray only) - Mercedes CLS-55 - Used GT-3 (997 if possible) - or, to copy April, about 10 Corrados of different years/colors to complete my fleet. Hesaputz 06-25-2007, 09:47 PM car, though tough to work on. Surely you can't buy one of these for 100k anymore. I paid 10k for mine, a 45k mile jewel, so just imagine how long ago - don't call me gramps. Still, I had a couple of memorable trips in 190's. Lovely Guilia below. Their charm grows with age. In the 70's, we ignored these and Berlina's - they were beasts of burden to be laughed at and spat upon. We young Alfistis had Junior Z's, GTA's, and modified Veloce spiders. Now I'd be honored to have a pristine example like that. Sarge 07-02-2007, 11:34 PM The handling is great but the configuration takes getting used to; front 'bobbles' (or feels like it) b/c the motor is hanging out back. But the thing sticks like glue. Autoweek gave the new 997 GT3 a phenomenal review, and the C2S is not car from it, relatively speaking. Put the R compound tires on it and it's even closer... I have sort of a love/could care less relationship with it. It's fun, but different, and kind of clinical, with an engine note that sounds like scheisse at parking lot speeds (but great above 4k). I'd prefer a front engine V8, I think. I may replace it with a Z8 at some point, if I can swallow the looks of that car (can't decide if I love it or hate it). Front engine M5 V8, open top, RWD, scarce, great handling - checks all the boxes. The 997 is a phenomenally good car, though. The BOSE system is even pretty nice. I just don't LOVE it the way I think I should, for the price. I may buy an older 993; I like the looks of some of them and would like to have some time with the air cooled variety... All while I await a V10 targa/cabrio R8. Any idea when that will happen? . |
