I just saw this post about reprogramming a remote after replacing a battery. Steps are below. Question: Does this mean if some guy has his car running/ with doors locked, I can program my remote to work on his car?

Step 1) With one key, turn the ignition switch on. Don't start the car, just turn the ignition on.
Step 2) Open the window. Not neccesary, just a safety precaution to keep from locking the keys in the car :-)
Step 3) Close the driver door and lock it with the other key.
Step 4) Hold down both the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote for a few seconds. After a couple of seconds you should get the honk and flashing lights.
Step 5) Open the door with the key, and turn off the ignition.

Don,
Thanks to the exact info you quoted I reprogramed my remotes today in all of 5 mins. If the car is running it didn't work on my 96. Also, you would have to remember you would have to do the EXACT sequence; which most people would not do.

I used to have an aftermaket remote in my Jeep and it also worked my friend's 4Runner aftermarket remote. Nothing like setting off his panic alarm to wake him up. We flipped a coin and he had his codes changed
