Our free server kept crashing on me so it took me a while to post this :-( I am looking for a new one. In the meantime, I mentioned I would post some pictures about the installation. Please click on the link to see the pitcures. If it says Sever Busy, please just try again or type in

If you happen to be on our main page http://team-a4technik.theshoppe.com
you can find this Borla install in the Upgrades/Performance page and just go all the way down after all the performance numbers.
Soon to come at least after we take care of A4ALLAN's ticket is GTech 0-60, 1/4 mile numbers. so stay stuned and enjoy for now.

Borla exhaust installation on A4ALLAN's 1.8TQTip

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with the installation. It seems to me that APR should have provided you with the proper downpipe at the start. And then, after all that, you get a ticket! Man, what a PITA.
Good luck with the rest of it. I'm curious to see the numbers from the Gtech since the APR/Borla exhaust is one I'm considering for my 1.8TQMS.

...A4's. That would explain the modifications you had to make to allow it to fit. Todd didn't have to reshape the downpipe and the hanger you cut-off bolted right up to the car no problem.

I can say wholeheartedly that the Borla cat-back exhaust being offered by APR will NOT fit a '98.5 A4 1.8TQTip. I would not expect the Neuspeed exhaust to fit either, since it is essentially the same exhaust system according to Borla.
Based on my own observations of how this system fits on my car (as well as looking at the pics of A4Allan's install), Tiptronics will require a completely different downpipe, with different bends and a different mounting point (the bracket A4Allan had to cut off with the hacksaw). I do not see any way to adapt the current part at all (pounding on it with a hammer is not an acceptable adaptation IMO).
If your installer somehow got this system to fit on your Tiptronic-equipped car without major modifications, it is likely resting FIRMLY on the heatshield attached to the transmission housing, causing (at the very least) a lot of excessive noise, and most likely undue stress on either the transmission housing (excess heat is a concern here too) or the downpipe-to-cat connection.
Unfortunately, Borla needs to see a Tiptronic equipped A4 (likely a Quattro) to observe the fit and make whatever modifications are necessary, and right now their R&D department is booked solid. I understand A4Allan is due to visit them on or near Oct. 9, but according to Borla they may not be able to get him in.
Bottom line is, I would recopmmend Tiptronic owners hold off on getting a Borla-manufactured cat-back exhaust from either APR or Neuspeed until this can be resolved.
