So I was reading the manual on how to check the engine oil and it says to get it to operating state temperature, let it idle to 2 minutes and then check the oil level.

Can someone please explain what it means by operating state temperature? Thanks.

While it's true that cold oil may create a false reading by "sticking" to the dipstick, all you need to do is get it up to a reasonable temp and then wait a few minutes for oil to return to the crankcase.

Checking within seconds of shutoff will also yield a false reading.
