Thanks to a previous post a couple of months ago, I decided to install the ipod in between the two vents. A .025" thick piece of Aluminum, tin snips, a dremel, and some black flat paint and I was good to go.

I measured the vent holes when removed. I then drew this up in ACAD, printed to scale, and glued it to the aluminum. Once I had cut and shaped the aluminum, I installed the ipod bracket and painted the assembly. I then installed it with the vents.

I dremeled a groove right below the hazard switch for the DICE cord. I just need to figure out what to do with it when the Ipod is not in the car...which is very rare.

The current bracket which is attached to the aluminum is a piece of crap...once I find something better I will replace.

How about storing the cord in the card drawer? Just cut a little notch in the front for the cord, and when you're not using it, all that would be visible would be the notch.

Pretty cool idea. It that the same dimensions as the 2006/2007 A3's. You radio looks different than my 2007 Concert.

installed and maybe it was because they had to install a "toggle" switch so that I could have my XM and iPod but when the iPod is connected and it shows the "CDC" program I have no control of anyhting, playlist, etc. from the iPod unit. It looks like yours is just the same as if it were "free standing"?

I used to have control from the head unit in my old MKV golf, but like this much better, especially when mounted this way. I'm not sure about how the XM works in, but without XM, it's just a matter of switching a couple switches on the dice unit to have control or not. Can't exactly remember which is which though.

You should run the cable through the heater vents. You can completely disassemble the vent blades to get the connector to fit through. I can ran the power cable for my Nuvi from the armrest all the way to the front.
