When I first saw an A4's they looked very short and squat. Now I know the body hasn't changed much, but from about 98 on they look longer, particularly the new model. Maybe I'm just used to the look now and am examining it more closely.
Has the trunk lid really changed for '00? It's hard to tell in the pictures.

My first impression is that both the front and back of the car are, as I put it to my girlfriend, smushed. And I love the look. It's a very solid aggressive look. As time passed, I noticed it less and less. About two weeks ago, out of the blue, I started noticing it again and I felt so refreshed. Anyway, it's still the same, you just gotta look for it. It's kinda like looking at one of those 3D wall hangings - blur your eyes. Or just look at older accords and civics for a while, then the difference is obvious.

The first two & half years had no drop, so all of the 96, 97's, and 98.0's had the stock height suspension.
But the appearance of factory lowered cars is still fairly new, with only the 98.5's and 99.5's that have it right now. As more Sports are now on the road with the lower suspension, it makes the car appear longer due to less ground gap. Plus standing next to a lowered car, you can see more of the car from the top, enhancing the illusion of a longer car.
