I was wondering if the K&N airfilter will blow the mass air flow or mess with the dsg?? Has any one had trouble. I had on in a Beetle and had 3 mass air flows to blow!

I have a K & N on my car and have had then on my 3 previous vehicles and never had any problems. I've always found them to be good products. Just wish they would expand their intake line to include more vehicles.

IMO if you want to use one, I'd get an UOA done at the next oil change to see if you have high wear metals & silicon levels.

A lot of this depends on how much velocity the air passes through the filter so perhaps since the A3 uses a relatively large filter, it might not be an issue.

The K&N is also not the best setup for the stock airbox. It actually blocks off part of the fresh air feed creating unnecessary turbulence.

It's not a performance mod, it is a cost savings (maybe) play.

And as far as saving money.... MAFs aren't THAT cheap.

is a low resistance to initial flow which can be felt as quicker throttle response. Perhaps a bit more flow up top, but the dust loading capacity of the K&N is significantly lower than stock, so it would have to be cleaned very regularly in order to maintain those gains.

But . . . I personally wouldn't sacrifice filtering efficiency & maf-longevity for a K&N.

An oiled cotton filter that has shown to have quite good filtering is the AFE. AMS actually sells them . . . it's *somewhat* worth it IMO.

above replacing a dirty stock filter with a clean stock filter.
