View Full Version : Hesitation through the gears on hard acceleration. andrew 09-27-1999, 08:17 PM Ever since they did the 30000 mile service, i am having a major hesitation through the gears on my 98 QM 2.8. Anyone else have this? Dimitri 09-28-1999, 05:02 AM I have a 99.5 1.8T and many many times if I am in 2nd and I take the gear out and try to put it back in leaving the clutch in the whole time (fully depressed as it should be) the gear will grind as if I am not supposed to put the car in 2nd. I have had similar problems with VWs in the past (all VWs were A2 bodystyle). So, to your question my gear hesitation is on 2nd and it is only when I try to put it back into 2nd after taking it out of 2nd. I remeber seeing some tips on a racing show about pausing in neutral for a bit between shifts to let the synchros catch up. Reduces wear on the transmission. Mark Ray Calvo 09-28-1999, 08:28 AM Dimitri, if you are getting gear grinding in such a situation, I would bring it back to the dealer soon. You could have a clutch problem, or synchros are bad. These trannies should NOT grind like that. My '98.5 30V is totally smooth/quiet on upshifts/downshifts. Keith J 09-28-1999, 04:01 PM I had similar occurrence on my 30 k service. Bring it back and have them take a look at the spark plugs. I bet they went with Bosch instead of NGK. Mine was an apparant "misfire" on one or two cylinders at 1400-2400 rpm. The speed decreased with miles on the odometer so it looks like a gapping problem. McGill is still servicing the car (3 weeks but its also in for a new tranny) |
