I just replaced the battery in my door lock remote Now I need to reprogram the remote. I searched the archives and no luck. It is the two button remote (lock & unlock) from a 1996 A4q. It is out of warranty ($$) and I don't have a day to kill to take it to the dealer. Thanks.

I found this in the archives a while back, but don't know who to credit. But I did perform it less than a week ago and it works. It's actually pretty simple. You'll need two ignition/door keys.

Step 1) With one key, turn the ignition switch on. Don't start the car, just turn the ignition on.
Step 2) Open the window. Not neccesary, just a safety precaution to keep from locking the keys in the car :-)
Step 3) Close the driver door and lock it with the other key.
Step 4) Hold down both the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote for a few seconds. After a couple of seconds you should get the honk and flashing lights.
Step 5) Open the door with the key, and turn off the ignition.
Your remote should now work. You may need to manually lock the door once more with the key, but I'm not sure.
If this doesn't work, try searching under "keyless", "fob", "remote", "entry", etc. I know it's in there somewhere, 'cuz I didn't come up with this on my own.
Good luck.
