I have noticed that air flows out of the window switch areas on all the doors on my 99.5 when a window is down or the sunroof is open. Is this some kind of "added feature" on the A4? Is there a fix for this? TSB? I guess I expected a tighter seal from a $30,000+ vehicle.

but I think you're confused about how Germans validate the price of their cars. They're heavier on engineering and lighter on creature comforts. Leaking window switches don't affect the performance of the car, so they don't stay up late worrying about it.

This "extra air coming in thru window switches thing" is a special option Audi has installed to stop the resonance that'll blow your ear drums if you open the sun/moon roof.

I wouldn't B/S you guys!

...the same feature. I'm not even sure the air is actually coming through the switches. I think it just happens to travel around that area for some reason. Either that, or there is a vacuum effect that sucks the air up through the drainage holes in the bottom of the door, and up through the switches. Regardless, it has never bothered me.

All car doors have drainage holes at the bottom. without these holes, any rainwater that worked it's way down in there would not be able to escape and would accelerate the deterioration of your doors due to rust.

On the highway there is probably an updraft from these holes which you've noticed through your window switches. When you stop the car, gravity takes over again and water is allowed to escape.

I bet the drain holes were free, keeping the price of your car from going much above $30,000. A completely sealed car would be a bad design, and the Germans leave that to ______________________ (insert least favorite country of manufacture here).

If it happened with all the windows up and sunroof closed, I would understand.
