so on a dark rainy night last week, my a3 had its first flat. actually, the tire was pretty much destroyed (who would have known seattle potholes could be this deadly??), so i had to get an urgent replacement.

so i am starting to think it would be great to have a spare full sized wheel and tire in my trunk, instead of that whimpy under-50-mph spare. after all, a full-sized wheel seems to fit perfectly in there.

this seems like a pretty straightforward operations, but before i go ahead with it, i am wondering if anyone here has contemplated or done this?

keep the mini-spare. It weighs less than the stock alloy, which means it is easier to install.

Now if you drive the open road a lot, a full sized spare makes perfect sense :-)

Have they improved the jack for the A3? Haven't looked at my mom's yet.

The one that came with my A4 is downright dangerous and I'd be very scared to use it on a shoulder changing a flat unless there was no alternative. Lots of people have had their cars fall off the stock A4 jack.
