Well, I can't figure out how to turn the compass on, and I followed the instructions in the manual. Is this optional, even with the auto-dimming mirror?

The heated front seats are definitely an option.

The mirrors don't "electrically fold", I don't think - whatever that means, anyway. They are heated, though.

And, I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere about the wipers. It rained this morning, and I had to turn them on.

(The Homelink & "coming home" feature is there.)

I had the same experience. Unable to turn compass on. Website states compass is one of the features with the 3.2. Have to go back to dealer to pick up front plate holder will ask about compass feature then.

You have to set the wiper lever in the "interval" position and then turn the ignition off. That sets it in "auto" mode. Leave it in the "interval" position and it'll automatically activate.

I wish AoA would start assembling the cars over here, maybe put to use the GM/Ford plants that are closing. But it will probably be Toyota that buys and retools them. If Audi wasn't the best car in the world I'd buy American ;)

My rain sensor wipers work whenever the switch is in the interval position.

If so, then that's what puts them in "auto" mode. According to the Owner's Manual:

"If the wiper lever is in the interval wipe position when the ignition is switched off, the light/rain sensor* is activated at a vehicle speed of 6 km/h or higher."

Mike:

I never leave it on or in the interval position when the ignition's off.

The manual's grammar and syntax are pretty dense, but here's how I interpret page 90. Along with the "tips" on various wiper/washer functions is the paragraph you quote, which I take to mean as a warning that the wipers can come on unexpectedly even with the ignition off -- similar to the "service position" function on p. 91. How this would happen in normal use beats me -- car wash?

But in my car the rain sensor function works every time I switch to interval, and that is always with the ignition on. Logically, how could it be otherwise? You are driving on a cloudy day with no rain, wipers fully off, engine running, and it starts to pour. You're supposed to pull over and switch off? Don't think so.

Also, contrary to what some have said here, the interval "wheel" does not affect rain sensor sensitivity; it sets the "base" interval for wipers when the rain sensor calls for minimal activity.

Bear in mind that at a stop the system "downgrades" your speed setting one notch (page 89) and interval is affected by speed when not at a stop.

and then moved it to the interval position when necessary that the wipers would go into interval mode without regard to the windshield sensor. I'll have to give it a try.

Those wacky Germans......

It can get pretty confusing because the observed behavior of the wipers depends on so many variables: how wet is the glass, which interval setting are you on, how fast is the car moving.

I find that in very light rain the lowest interval setting works best; if it starts to rain harder I need interval position 2. I have never seen a need for 3 because if it's raining that hard, the sensor takes it all the way into low or even high speed continuous. At which point even the distinction I cite above between 1 and 2 is meaningless.

Put another way, I really only have to fuss with the controls if the rain slows way down and the sensor and position 2 are causing more wiping than I want. Are we having fun yet? [g]

Then there's snow . . .
