I've seen a few posts regarding aftermarket split mirrors. I've always set my mirrors the new way since as long as I can remember, but I still like the idea of seeing what's even farther beside me because the new way still doesn't help you see someone merging into the lane you are merging into from the other side: Example: You are in right lane, other person is in left lane and both are trying to merge into the center lane. Anyway, that not withstanding, I'm curious about the vertical viewing area of the new mirrors. I find that on the A3 when I test drove it, I had a hell of a time seeing what was very close to me. This was quite bothersome when trying to park. My 94 GTI mirrors are much bigger and allows you to see much more up and down which makes so much difference for close quarters manouvers. Do any of the split mirror options out there provide better visibility up and down? Not to say I want a horizontal split and a vertical split, but assuming the normal vertical split in the mirrors, is the inside 2/3 of the mirror the same as the stock mirrors or does it refract differently too. I saw some pics online but wasn't able to tell, 100%.
