After 4 phone calls to my dealer over the course of 3 days I finally got a phone call back this afternoon. My problem was that I needed to know when my 2000 1.8TQM will arrive (many other plans cannot be given closure until I know I will have transportation) What was the answer the "AUDI BRAND SPECIALIST" had "I have no idea... either October, November or December... VIN?... I don't know" All this comes AFTER assurances that my car would be sitting in my garage early October. As far as I can see my options are as follows:
i)Wait and Pray the car gets here by Oct. 20th (after that I will have to cancel the deal and buy a car short notice)
ii) Visit the dealership mid-October and pick up a 2000 1.8TQM off the lot
iii) Buy a BMW like my father has been bitching at me to do
I through myself upon the mercy of this forums considerable experiance... What should I do?

promised a car in 6-8 weeks. I received it two days short of 6 months. It seems to depend on whether the dealer is low volume or high volume. I have heard of people waiting 8 plus months others only 2. the dealer should at least give you a production time. I got mine something like c or d status in May and received the car in July. If they don't have a production status then the car has not been scheduled yet! The minimum time from production to you is about 2 months. The only way this can be shortened is if the dealer trades productions slots with another dealer. If they don't have the status code then start looking else where for the A4, because it is 2 plus months out! This is what I experienced and found through research.

Do this IN PERSON, do it when you have all day, and if necessary park yourself there til you get a resolution. Make your situation absolutely clear, explain that you need to be in your vehicle by X date (might want to give yourself a little time in case they don't come through and you have to take your business elsewhere), and the car does you no good after that date. Is there another dealer in your area? Start working on a back up plan, whether it be another Audi dealer or going with the BMW, that way if things don't work out you'll be prepared. Also, the 2000's have started to arrive, so they'll be showing up at dealers soon (how soon is another story), try to find something on the lot (maybe even a '99.5).
Did you order the car? If so, what does your contract say? Does it specify a delivery date? If not they may have you over a barrel. Also, what options did you get and how flexible are you about them? Hopefully they're common options in your area and you can find a substitute if you need to.

Any chance that the car has in fact been ordered and he just does not know anything? If not then I was blatantly lied to as he said it could be any day now

go to a volume dealer with a lot of inventory. I'm in So Cal so it's easy, maybe it would be harder for you. Find the car you want on the lot, or be realistic and find one that's damn close.
Then sharpen your pencil, pull out the invoice numbers and grind out a deal. I've always thought that having the car sitting there makes the deal more "real" for both parties and acts as motivation.
