Clear sunny day. Light traffic. Nobody in front of me. 4 lanes of freeway. Hubby saw something fly across 2 lanes from another car in the outside lane, and we were hit with a mightly THWACK! No obvious damage while driving.

Stopped and checked the injury. Clearcoat munched on the hood near the base of the windsheild, but looks like colour coat may be intact. Glass deeply scored at the base of the passenger side of the windsheild, and then a hairline scratch in the clearcoat diagonally across the forward portion ofthe roof. Amazing the windheild held against a hit that hard.

The sucky thing is I chose this freeway today because there is no commercial traffic with big trucks to throw up crap.

And then to punish me further, the glovebox latch stopped working. You can't open it unless you put the key in the slot and gently lever the assembly to line things up. It's out of alignment, and I don't see an obvious way to adjust it.

*sigh* Guess I'll call insurance and dealer on Monday. Maybe Sasha is jealous that I put her away for a couple of weeks and drove the Alfas instead ;-P

bodyshop that many AWers take their car to here in Silicon Valley. Will go an consult with them.

You're in Irvine right? Fabricante in Lake Forest is the place to go if you should ever need their services. Not cheap and not fast, but they do a great job.

crossing my fingers I won't. Btw, that really sucks about the big f'n rock that blasted you guys. Perhaps it was the Alfa that had something to do with it for going back to Sasha? :-)

hoping I won't need it.....
I'm moving to the Bay area next month, did they arrest that rock? Don't want it coming after me.

When you get here(the bay area), make sure highway 24 is all fixed. They are repaving 24 for a couple of weeks now and my A3 got hit by debris. One hit on the hood and clear coat came off. Another one hit below driver side rear door and even paint came off and left visible white marks. I warned my partner about that and he drove through 24 anyway and got the same result on his MB CLS500's hood......OUCH !!!

Be very careful!! The re-pavement starts near 880/24 and goes all the way to Caldecott tunnel.

She'll look as good as new. Just don't get it repainted.

Or use one of those touch-up services and stand over the guy's shoulder while he does it!

But you should know all this already! and probably do...
