I have a 2001 A3 Std 1.8 Manual
Been to the dealer 5 times with a loud twanging noise from beneath when the car was turned fool lock or been paralell parked. Accompanied with a jerk on the steering wheel itself.
Dealer said nuthing wrong. Five trips later when the car made the noise over and over it was decided that the steering rack needed replacing.
Six months later;
1. car's steering now gets stuck when changing lanes or going around bends at RANDOM intervals.
2. sometimes when the steering gets stuck a clonking noise is heard as before the rack was replaced and u can feel the steering wheel jump.
3. dealer has said car is fine.
Before I go to the AA for a check, does anyone have any ideas! This is extremely important.
Also note that I think the car only starts having issues once it has warmed up to 90 degrees.
