I've recently installed the ice-Link into my Audi A3. I'm just putting this post up to offer advice to anyone attempting to perform a similar install.

For those of you who don't know what ice-Link is.......here is a link to its site:
http://www.densionusa.com/x/index.p...d=375&Itemid=79

I ordered my ice-Link from the following site:
http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link.html
and I got the ProClip (I didn't want to take a drill to my car) from the following place:
http://www.brodit.com
I got the keys to remove the head unit from the "not so friendly" Audi dealer....

I was a total novice to this and was quite freaked out by the prospect of wrecking my car!!, but the installation went without a hitch. It's installed 4 days and counting and it's still working!

I don't have any pictures of the installation process as it is VERY easy! one thing to note the ice_link installation manual tells you to disconnect the battery. DON'T DO THIS. in modern cars if you disconnect the battery it'll feck up a few of your cars electronic features (service timer and maybe even the airbags) all you need to do is disconnect the power from the back of the head unit before you make any ice-link connections.
Oh before you push everything in behind the head unit check to see that it all works together.

finally the verdict:
I've been using the iTrip for a long time now and it is quite useful, but I have my reservations about using it in the car. I could travel from one end of Ireland to the other without getting much interference, but I can imagine those of you living in a more radio wave saturated country.
Any way the ice-Link takes care of all this. and the audio is coming from the line-out of the iPod means that it has far greater quality than that of the iTrip or any other device that uses the headphone socket. Also you don't have to balance the volume on the iPod with the volume on the head unit to get that "sweet spot".
.....
I'll put up a few pictures of the finished install later in the week.

If you need any help just reply......

C U Later.

Does the ice-Link work with Radio Concert? I mean is there a hookup for a CD Changer on the Concert system?

Is it also possible to hook up an OBD cable and get engine information out of your iPod while driving?

Yes the Concert head unit has a CD Changer slot. To access the iPod from the head unit just press the CD button twice (if you are currently listening to FM Radio) and the iPod will resume playing from where it last stopped.

I havent a clue what a OBD cable is, but I'd say you can not get engine info out of iPod (Whatever that means ???)

It's simple to install (1 - 2 hours MAX) and thats when you havent done anything like this before!!

ODB = Onboard Diagnostics

Basically it means that all the sensors in the engine send information and values about the RPM, temperatures, gas pedal position etc. to the computer which then sends all this information out with a cable that usually sticks out from under the dashboard. If you have a scanner or a laptop with an adaptor and right software you can get all this information on to your screen.

What I was wondering was that if you can with ice-Link get your iPod to display all this information. But I suppose someone would have to program software for iPod and it might require an extra cable hooked up to the iPod.

Anyways thanks for telling about the ice-Link, I'll definetly look in to it.

Hi!

How did you pull out the head unit and what route did you use to get the cable from behind the head unit to the front? Did you have to remove any panels etc.?
