I have a 2000 TDi (110bhp) and there's been a knocking sensation and squeaking coming from the front, which has got progressively worse over the past year. Reading from previous posts I am thinking this could be the front wishbone bushes - anybody got any other suggestions?
Has anybody replaced these bushes themselves - how easy/complex is the job???

This is interesting............I have a '96 1.6 A3 and have also been hearing "knocking" noises coming from what sounds like the front suspension area but always feel like an idiot when I try and describe the noise to people. Basically its a little bit like the noise you get when you go over a bump only you dont have to go over a bump to hear it. I also think that its more prominent at slow speeds. I have an Italian friend who mentioned maybe the wishbone bushes but I never followed it up too much. Does anyone know any more about these? Are they simple to replace and most importantly what kind of price are they?

On mine 2001 mod a3 the knocking sound happens as I drive over a bump or hole in the road. It seems like there is a "klonk" when the tire looses some weight to it. Its like there is some "slack". Any suggestions before it goes in the local audi garage and the wallet opens? Also could somebody give me the size in speaker size inches for the backdoors on the 2001 4 door.
