View Full Version : Bumper Scratch and Color Matched Lower Mouldings

I, being the jerk that I am, managed to scratch my (days old!) front bumper cover on a little stucco planter that was crouching at the side of a driveway waiting to attack. Two questions:

(1) The damage is about 1.5in x 1.5in, with horizontal scratches into the plastic from the stucco (the black plastic is visible). Does anyone know whether this will sand out nicely? Will the body shop have to repaint the entire bumper cover, or can they just do that one area? I've seen other posts talking about how touch up paint won't look very good on such a large area, and to repaint the whole cover costs several hundred $.

(2) This could be an excuse to do something more radical. Has anyone painted their black plastic lower mouldings to match the body color? This seems like it might look good. How much did you pay, and has the paint held up?

Thanks to all.

They gave me a quote of $380 to fix the scratch on the bumper and said they couldn't do a spot fix, they had to sand, prime, and repaint the base coat in the small area, but clearcoat the whole bumper. I'll go to some more to see what they say.

On the lower mouldings, the shop said the type of plastic Audi uses (textured black palstic) doesn't take well to paint and he wouldn't recommend painting it.
