I'm looking at getting a new S3 but am having trouble sorting out the exact spec. I have read in a couple of magazines that the new TT has 18" RSTT alloys and lowered suspension, so I asked if the 18" alloys were an option on the S3. I was told they were and could be fitted by Quattro BMG (for £1000) who are apparantly Audi's tuning division (like AMG to Mercedes), however I have never heard of them. Has anyone heard of this company and does anyone know of anyone going for the 18" RSTT alloys. They said that if I wanted to lower the S3 like the new TT it would need to be fitted with a different chasis! (for £400), but it wouldn't have to be as the 18" wheels have 225/40 tires and these would have the same ride height as the stock 17" alloys with 225/45. I know someone did mention in an earlier messsage that they fitted 18" alloys (RS4's i think) but they made the car ride higher and look like a dune buggy, I don't know what tyres they had on, but I wouldn't want that. Does lowering the suspension improve performance or does mean it will run out of travel even sooner or will it help things? has anyone driven a new 2002 TT as I guess this would have the same feel. Also, I was wondering if it was really worth upgrading the wheels to the 18" RSTTs as they still come with a 225 profile tyre(although on an 8" rim) like the 17" alloys. Does the shallower profile really roughen the ride quality.
I like the sound of 18" alloys but i'm more concerned with performance than asthesics....also there are alot of speed bumps round here.
My gut feeling is to maybe go for the 18" RSTT alloys but to leave the suspension and chasis alone.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
