Guys,

You may want to purchase the Feb 2001 issue of Volkswagen Driver. It contains an article about the haldex system and it's an interesting read.

I'll not reproduce the article here, but it does mention a test that Jim Curley performed, who runs Star Performance in Scotland (agents of AmD). They ran up a TT 225 on the 4wd rolling road, it had 165bhp at the wheels, and on full load the split was 135bhp front and 30bhp rear.

They go on to mention feeling the drive move from front to rear under certain conditions.

They even mention that because a control unit analyses the signals 'before it decides on the extent of slip which will be permitted in the coupling, there ought to be ways in which the split in drive can be adjusted. Perhaps this opens up a new area of fine-tuning for those models fitted with 4Motion [Haldex].' - Have they been reading this forum? We came up with that idea for "chipping" the Haldex ages ago!

Finally, they would like to hear from readers with 4Motion (Haldex) models, with reactions to the system. Now I know it's a VW mag, but there is nothing stoping you A3/S3'ers with "quattro" from writing in. But read the article first.

Cheers,

AL

Righton Al B. We had this discussion ages ago about how the Haldex should be able to be setup very differently according to the application.

I personally would like to see a much bigger rear bias along the lines of the Skyline GTR and Porsche turbo setup which are predominantly RWD with power pushed to the front only when necessary. I believe this would give our cars far better feel than the "failsafe" understeer that the current setup provides. Hey, if we have an "S" badge on the car we are big boys and can handle abit of oversteer :). Its way more fun - balancing the oversteer on the throttle like my old big Aussie V8s.

So come on Audi, if you read this forum (which I doubt) - dial in more fun for us S3 Haldex users - preferably with a retro-fittable upgrade.

Cheers
