View Full Version : Rear view wiper problem

My rear view washer seased from operating properly the other day, just minor drops dripping out. Today I checked to see if the nozzle had been clogged, but to my surprise it wasn't.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the nozzle supposed to move along with the outer shield (the outmost part, giving the spray nozzle a free sector of 180 degrees)?
If it is supposed to move, I have to wonder howcome the nozzle of my washer is pointing right inside the outer cover. Now while it does interest me how the darn thing got turned the wrong way in the first place, I'm more interested in getting it shootin' back where it's supposed to. How is the cover attached? Does it snap off by brute force or is it screwed in it's place? Is the re-alignment of the nozzle part easily done with standard tools or do I need some VAG-specific tools? This is my first hatch so I never had to fiddle with these before... and the weather up here is really crap, so I need to fix it really bad.
Thanks for any info!

Hi,

Don't know how to remove the plastic cover. But on my 99 A3, the washer nozzle stays in a fixed position, it doesn't move from side to side with the wiper. Sounds like yours has just come loose and shifted round.

Someone on here will know how to remove the cover I expect.

The cover didn't really require much force. So I opened it, unscrewed the bolt revealed under the cover but couldn't disasseble the wiper further (don't wan't to use force anywhere it doesn't belong...). At this point I discovered that the nozzle part could now be easily turned to point at the right direction. So once that was done, I reassebled it. I was so full of confidence I didn't test it at that point, did that on the road. Funnily enough, now the spray moves along the wiper arm! Well, I'll look into it more during the weekend, since it now does the job. Any info in further disassembly of the wiper arm and washer nozzle would be much appreciated...
