Dealer today - i now have new pads, and they ordered up the new spash guards the model numbers of which were listed below by Steven. My car already had the new splash guards (2000 model year) and so I asked about the "spoiler" mod on the 2001 model. Mechanic got a new 2001 1.8TS which had come off the transporter that day and put it up on the ramps - it has EXACTLY the same system as mine, same calipers, splashguard but NO spoiler.

We looked on the microfiche and it appears that only the s3 and a3q have the extra spoiler to deflect water, and sadly it cannot be bolted on to the standard a3 caliper as the s3 has a higher power braking system with different caliper - so no luck there.

got an s3 on the ramps, and lo - a little plastic spoiler sticking out from the caliper (which was much differnt from the a3 caliper)

New braking system - I think so (how much was the Brembo conversion??)

I have my car awaiting a new servo so will let you know the outcome.

I also have the dealer investigaiting alternative brakes, but by the sounds of it the TQ and S3 have the same parts??! So this will probably turn up nothing.

The brakes thing is getting well out of hand as this really is the only problem I have with the car and it is such a constant worry...

And believe be I have tried and tried to duplicate the problem.

It is odd as I have now looked at both cars, on the ramp, and they are identical. The part numbers for the brake pads are identical - who knows - i'm gonna borrow one and try it out myself.
