View Full Version : Warranty Blues!

My S3 is about 4 months old and I want to get some mods done to it (as per other thread listed here)..

Thing is, my local MTM dealer informs me (and stated elsewhere on this bbs) that a chip+exhuast won't affect my warranty unless Audi can prove it was the mods that caused a (if happens) fault..

Thing is, of course Audi will blame a bent conrod on a 3rd party chip ;)..

Audi UK have an approved installer for 'SKN' chips which they will keep under warranty - they offer a 275bhp conversion but it's a hefty £2395 compared to the MTM 269bhp package (ecu+exhaust+springs) for £1600..

Do any of you guys/gals have any experience with warranties and problems in the UK?

Thanks

Stu

I can't see the problem with this decision. If you want to seriously alter the performance of the car vs the factory spec, then you can't seriously expect Audi to warranty all parts of the engine, transmission and brakes that are going to suffer increased wear as a result of your actions. It would be a very grey area if a performance or stress related component failed after you had carried out the mods. I think accepting the risk is all part of the process of modding the car from it's original spec.

I spoke to AMD and they reckon that their mods won't affect my Audi warranty..

Apparently they do mod work for audi dealerships on cars from new.. hmm.. interesting..

I'll think i'll take the risk and book it in there.. at least they remap the existing chip so it won't notice too much..

Audi UK will certainly try and void your warranty if they find out it is chipped. I found out the hard way!

Do you have any info regarding Aston Green Audi? Location?

Do they charge the same as AMD direct?

Cheers

Okay..

I've been told by a couple of UK Audi Dealers (Scotts & Aston Green) that if I get the modifications done by themselves they will warranty the work and the car as long as I continue to use them for all servicing and repair work.. Not such a bad deal really..

Thing is now persuading the lease company to let me specify said chosen dealer to take ownership of works on the car.. might be a task!..

Did you speak to Paul and he suggested going direct ?

I phoned Paul a month or so ago and and asked about a remap. I did say I was only going to keep the car for 8-10 months, but he also pushed me the direct way. Is this in light of recent failures ?. Seems bad form that Robs turbos expired and he had to cough up. I'm asking myself if Audi UK have now put pressure on Aston Green to stop, or Aston Green have had too many problems with remaped cars.

Maybe Scotts is the only way now to do the work and keep your warranty. Very expensive though way to source the Oettinger chip.

My S4 remains in std form.
