View Full Version : Problems with Bose Speakers Peanuts 01-08-2001, 02:01 AM My bose speakers seem a bit dicky. THe front left are fuzzy under certain frequencies. Anyone else had problems. Its like there are bits of dust/stones bouncing around on the speaker cone. Colin M 01-08-2001, 03:07 AM The sratching sounds are the coils in the cones rubbing against the magnet. This is caused when either the coil has been overheated and the varnish on the copper wire has bubbled up interfering with the movement of the cone, or the coil is otherwise damaged by damp or dirt. Sounds like a warranty swap to me. Colin SJG 01-08-2001, 04:54 AM I've had a problem with the nearside door speaker (in the door bin). It sometimes sound very matted and dull (never at a dealer!). It was faulty and replaced under warrenty. It only took four trips to two dealers have it fixed... Have a laugh at the catalogue of events... 1) Ordered part through Aston Green Slough (local for work) 2) Part not arrived in time (1-2 weeks later) to fit when car was booked in for a replacement headlight unit 3) Booked car for 60K service at Whites Audi Camberley (local for home) 4) Offered to collect part which had arrived at Aston Green Slough and leave in car to be fitted during service, but the service department said that an interdealer transfer would be just as easy 5) Car in for service (1-2 weeks later) but speaker had not arrived from Aston Green. 6) Booked car in for the following Saturday 7) Whites Audi replaced speaker 8) The next day, speaker still defective (intermitant problem) 9) Booked car in for the third time the following Saturday to investigate other possible causes 10) Found out Whites had replaced farside speaker!!! 11) Ordered another speaker 12) Booked car in the next Saturday for the fourth time 13) Replace correct speaker 14) Working stereo...Hurrah! :o) ravenx 01-08-2001, 04:29 PM My BOSE sub exploded 9 weeks ago. I visited the dealer and they told me that this will be changed in 2 weeks under warranty. I said "very well". 4 weeks passed and there was no sign of the replacement sub. I filed an official complaint in the fifth week. In the meantime my warranty period expired, but the dealer said that this won't cause any problem as the request date matters, not the arrival date of the part. Fine! 2 weeks later (in the 7th week) the replacement sub arrived and have been fitted. I turn on the concert unit and......to my surprise almost no bass in the car. I adjust the T -5 and B +5 still no BOSE bass. What??!?! I of course went mad and went to the dealer the very next day. And listen to what I have been told. They now say that as the warranty period has expired, it is I who has to pay for the second replacement sub. And I told them that I'm going to take legal action if they don't come to their senses at once. Can you believe this nonsense? They are telling me that the part warranty only applies to the part I have actually paid for, not to the parts changed under warranty!!! This is good business, I want to become a dealer too. First I'm going to install faulty parts to cars with warranty periods about to expire and then I'm going to charge them for replacing the faulty part I have installed. Tomorrow I'm going to the dealer again. My lawyers are ready and waiting to get some dealer meat. Let's see what happens... Ed Owen 01-09-2001, 09:28 AM That's just bull! Your lawyers will have a field day. I suggest you mention trading standards also... ravenx 01-09-2001, 03:44 PM The dealer today accepted to order a new BOSE sub. Let's see what happens when the new part arrives? Are they going to ask me to pay for it? Is this new one going to work properly? I'll post about the outcome of these mysteries when the new sub arrives. BTW, onfortunately there ain't no trading standards here. Well, sort of. There are a couple institutions associated with Trading Standards, but all they do is nothing. They are completely useless. The only way to get results is to go to the newspapers. If you are an influensive person you can get a small story published in one of the major newspapers and only this will be effective and get you some results. That's the price we pay for living in an underdeleveloped country and community (optimistic people call such countries developing countries, but that's nothing but a cheap make up).
