On my way to work I have to ride over a series of four small pot holes and grates which are un-avoidable, they are not deep nor dangerous.

When I go over them I notice the [ ESP ] light flashes on the dash, is this normal because the car is losing traction ?

Has anybody else noticed this, or is it an electical short to the inicator / lamp, DOH !!!

On a slighly different note; you can tell all of our 2001 S3 models have been built at the same time when the glovebox compartments are all stiff and slow to open !! If that is the only worry we have, the S3 should be top of Top Gears JD POWER survey this year !! not the suburu...boooo, hissssss.

Yup I think this is normal I have seen it a few times when going over holes/gaps in the road

As for the glove box, mines pretty bad as well, feels a lot cheaper than the rest of the car plus it won't lock properly!!

First post - have been lurking for some time :)

Agree with the sticky glovebox comment - my 3 week old 2001 S3 is the same - seems a bit out of place in an interior as good as this.

Not seen ESP light up going over holes etc - will keep an eye out for it.

2100 miles so far and loving it! :)

I haven't tried locking the glove box yet, so i can not give you any information on that. I will try it tomorrow.
As far as the ESP is concerned, every time the ESP goes into action the light goes on, in order to inform you...If the light is always on, then there is a problem with the ESP (either the sensors or the ABS).I haven't seen mine lighting yet, eventhough i once felt something going on with the rear end of the car when i turned the steering wheel very fast in order to avoid a big hole on the road when i was going about 140km/h. Then again i was not looking at the instrument panel.

I recently went to test my ESP because I've never seen the light showing up. It's simple: drive to an empty car parking space when it's raining and drive some narrow curves while fully accelerating. Doesn't require high speed, 30 km/h is enough.

I don't recommend testing it while exiting a roundabout :)

...about 50 yards out of my drive, then I kill it :)

I hate ESP!
