My friend just placed an order for a 2000 A4, and was calling his insurance Geico for a quote... The rep told him that he can get day running lights discount for his insurance, something like 8% savings? The rep mentioned that it was in their system that he can get the discount.. Anyone else get this?

I have never heard of an insurer giving discounts for DRL's. In fact-statisticaly there is no difference is accident rate in cars with or without DRL's (insurance istitutes's own #'s). In fact there are some who believe that accident rate of motorcycles has gone up-because it used to be when you saw a headlights-it was a motorcycle, now every 3rd car on the road is blazing DRL's and the bikes don't get as noticed.

When the sun is setting on a two lane highway, DRL's are the only things that show up on the car. otherwise,..YOU WILL NOT SEE THEM!!
So let's keep them...let's just tell the marketing department that DRL's should have their own bulb and not use the High Beam placement so it looks like other's ar highbeaming you constantly.

Motorcycles no longer stand out against a field of cars if everybody has their headlights on. And far too often I see people at night driving around with just their DRLs and forgetting to turn on their actual lights (which means no rear illumination).
Although I do agree that headlights help at sunset, which is why I turn mine on then. But DRLs are a very problematic solution.
