My a3 quattro has very good brakes but i would like more sharper brakes, how would i go about this. Is uprated pads the best option?
2000 A3 quattro

Have a look at MTM brakes. I reckon A3 brake specs are already quite good that to achieve more than marginal improvement you need a full disc+caliper replacement or at least disc+performance pads.

to metal braided connections takes some of the "slop" out of the pedal and gives sharper responses and more feel. Basically, as the pressure builds in the hoses, the metal ones don't give as the rubber ones do.

As you say, the oem brakes are good and it is a very expensive upgrade for little extra to replace discs pads and calipers

Yes MTM seems a relatively cheap way of upgrading.Another way would be to find a S3 owner who has upgraded to AP discs/calipers and fit the S3 version to the A3 I think the s3 are 312mm I'm not sure about the brake balance or master cylinders although the balance should be taken up with the ABS

You can get a nice Porsche GT2 kit for the A3, porcshe calipers, rotors etc from a german company called Movit. Could be a little bit over the top though, obviously not a cheap piece of kit.

The S3 brakes have been quite good in dry so far, no fading experienced. But, in wet this ain't the case: serious problems - like no braking power at all.

I opted for Porsche 993 GT Cup brakes and calipers (got the idea from a German Tuner called mov'it) and they arrived a short while ago (beware: they cost a fortune - DM 10000), but won't be fitted until the warranty period expires (end of December 2000, unfortunately we don't get 3 years warranty like the guys from UK). When they're fitted you'll get a detailed report from me, don't worry :)

1600GBP from Movit's UK distributor.

...actually no tuning distributors here. Some names can be seen as Turkish distributors, but if you contact them, you immediately find out that they are obsolete.

Yes butyour S3 weighs a lot more than our 1.8Ts

ravenx
06-08-2000, 04:43 AM
(I think) it is the calipers. They absorb to much water and don't work when you apply the brakes for the very first time after a long drive in wet. Therefore you might get similar results even in your lightweight 1.8T.

And late braking is my favorite overtaking move and I personally think my life is worth the money mentioned above.

Yes , until recently i didn't have a problem even though some time ago there were posts about wet braking problems, however a recent trip on motorways and main roads at 70 ish mph showed up a problem --- they just don't work for two seconds and at 70mph thats over 200 feet - a loooong way , even my wife gripped the side of her seat !

The price I mention is the same price mov'it charges in Germany. The price you quoted might be for front brake parts only. Pls check!

...makes too many unforced errors.

Do you remember, in his first F1 year, Jacques was trailing Damon Hill by 22 secs, he caught him up, passed him right after his pit stop (he exited the pits and closed the gate as Damon came from the start-finish straight) and finished the race 22 secs before Hill? That race made me a real Jacques fan. After seing his motivation and ambition to catch Damon, I knew he'd give the more experienced guys a hard time.
