I've noticed that a lot of engine remaping
upgrades requires a K&N filter. This would
be fine if the K&N filter was as good as the
paper filter. If we want to increase airflow,
why not use a filter from a bigger engine and
and keep the car having the air filter being serviced by Audi? The same goes for upgrading
the intercooler... a must if you live in a hot country... an S4 intercooler?! And these options would probably be cheaper than some kits...
Has anyone done this? Would it be possible?

the k&n filter is far superior to the standard audi air filter.first it is re-useable,clean it after 50k miles (this can vary depending on where you live) and secondly it flows far more air than a standard paper air filter.take formula 1,most of the teams use k&n air filters why, because they are the best.
as for bigger air filters and bigger intercoolers, the main problem you have there is space.modern cars have very little space under the bonnet, there is always a battle between the designers and the engineers as to what they can and can't do.as for the s4 intercooler,it actually has two and one of these is virtually the same size as the a3 intercooler,a better option would be to go for a hand made aluminium unit like the one from amd.

http://www.auto-amd.com</a

I'm currently waiting for a picture of above said intercooler, do you have one? if not I'll post it as soon as I get it.

Well, you're right about the lack of
space... but I don't want a reusable
filter or a filter that let's more durt
get into the engine... What I want is
to live the car at Audi's once per year
end let them do all the necessary
maintenace... including replacing the
air filters... Where I live, using the
K&N filter is out of the question... just
to many durt from construction sites...
About the AMD intercooler, where's the
catch? Do I have to sell a kidney?
