Yesterday morning I saw an A3 on steroids pretending to be a S3,in stratford on avon, with a personalized plate. Was this you ?? I tried to keep up but a porsche got in the way.

Yep that was me, I'm getting it chipped saturday, might have an exhaust as well. Your S3 is very nice I'm dead jealous, look forward to less trafic in future!

yeah bought it the day 's' reg came out with the intention of getting one, but no S3's were released then so had an A3 1.8t, have grown quite attached to mine though, but will swap when I am a bit older for cheaper insurance say 30(27 at present),
at least I've got the plate ready for then, also A3 is being facelifted at the end of the year so S3 will also.

I'm 28, and reckon insurance on an S3 would still be too steep at the moment. I'm going to wait till I'm 30 too...arrggh! wishing years away just for a car. NO! I DON'T WANT TO BE 30. NO NO NO!!!

I did the same thing when I was 21, "oh I'll wait till I'm 25, then get a fast car, insurance will be cheaper." Then they went and put the age up to 30! You can't win!

Interesting comment about the facelift. Where did you read that?

Yeah I got a 205 1.9 GTI on my 25 birthday, I had to bomb around in a nova 1.3SR before that, both fortunately before the bad boys started driving them! My local dealer just got a silver S3 in with Aluminium mirrors, looks dead sexy!

Dare I admit to being the baby of the group at 24 - and yes insurance stings quite badly although I did not find it prohibitive (obviously)

I am interested (if it is not too personal) to find out roughly what you guys pay for insurance as I would like to look forward to lower costs or alternatively find out I got a good deal.

If I'm not mistaken there are still some unanswered questions from when Chris Grant had his done. So maybe you could take up the info "regurgitation". :)

If you get chance, can you ask them about spare ECU's, and possible problems with the immobiliser in swapping back-and-forth.

I was quoted £1400 on an S3 (group 20) or was told by many companies not until I was 30, thats £900 more than the A3 (group 15)

No no-claims, no garage, 3 points, business usage element. One place quoted me £1500 !!

It has always amazed me how much UK drivers have to pay for insurance. I'm 27 and here in Turkey nobody gives a damn about age, yet. I transferred an old insurance policy I had over to the S3. That policy had 60% discount as I haven't claimed anything for more than 4 years. So I paid £300 for the S3.
