Tried to get at least one of the wiper arms off this evening, in the hope of getting at the ECU to get the part number etc.

Could I get the arm off, could I f*#( !

Should the arm lift straight of the bolt, or is something more than just brute force needed?

All help appreciated.

I have removed my Ecu before, once you have loosened the nuts you have to wiggle the arm back and forth its on a tapered spline so it just a case of waggling it! don't try to lever it off with a screwdriver though as you'll only end up scratching or breaking something.
I'm curious, why are you after your ecu's part number? If you want a price for a second ecu your looking at a grand unless you can find one at a breaker which is very, very doubtful.

John/David,

Thanks for the advice.

I'll probably have to spray on some sort of easing lubricant to get it of.

John, you've guessed it. I'm after a spare ECU. The father of a friend of mine runs his own garage, and gets ECU's for cars all the time. So to get a price, he needs the part no. I'm not sure how much one will cost, but to rent only costs £200! Anyway, I thought I'd just look into it. If it proves too costly, I'll just bin the idea. A grand is way too much money.

Question for you: are the part no's easily visible on the ECU or do you have to remove the thing to see them?

Cheers,

Alan.

I've never heard of renting a ECU, how does that work?
You definitely have to remove ECU to see the code, by the way how do I attach a picture to a message on this forum?

I don't know the full details of the rentals. Only that the garage owner rents them of his supplier on a regular basis. In what context this is done, I don't know. But I can find out - thats no trouble.

So you have to remove the whole thing?! ****! Did you get any warning lights flashing up after you refitted it? Or did you not actually unplug it - just flipped it over?

Cheers John,

Alan.

After clicking on the link, you then have to upload your picture to AudiWorld picture database. After the upload completes you will be given a URL line for your picture (e.g. http://131.107.68.28/AudiWorldPics/2000/venom02.jpg). Just copy and paste that line to the "Optional Image URL" space.

If the picture you want to post is already on the internet, you can also use the original URL of that picture (e.g. http://www.xyz.com/z/pic.jpg)

Booyaka here's the label off my ECU, I had to disconnect the connectors, I think it's a bit a bull**** about warning lights(probably only occurs on fly by wire models or I was just lucky?), but you have to switch on the ignition for 30 seconds before restarting after refitting (thats what Neuspeed told me!) apparently the only difference between all the different A3 turbo ECU's is the software which is slightly different in each country regarding emissions!
Keep it real, John.
