Hello everybody !
I have ordered an audi A3 tdi 110 here in belgium.
She as a pre-hifi installation of six speakers. My question is : What's the quality of those speakers ? Does someone know the power of those speakers (DIN or RMS power) ? And the brand of those speakers ?
In advance, thank you very much !

See my post on page 2 speaker upgrades. I've not upgraded yet but I shall probably get the Magnat .The standard speakers are not good.Magnat should be available in Belgium as well as some of the others mentioned in the reply.
Chris,
One of the other problems I have had with my drivers door, which the dealer still hasn't fixed, is the speaker housing resonates under serious bass. i.e. Dance music type stuff.
Do you know of any way to stop this? Isn't there some expanding foam stuff the specialist car hi-fi buffs use?
Thanks,
Alan

Hi
I would question the value of upgrading the standard speakers with better units as the quality of the Audi COncert head unit it not great either and in combination produces an average (although better than most manufacturers) sound. The problem is that only the front speakers are powered from the head unit, the rear speakers have their own little amplifiers and are driven from the line level outputs of the head unit. Also, in the UK spec cars there is an active subwoofer on the left hand side of the boot.
Changing speakers makes it tricky to integrate well - I tried out some Cerwin Vega 5.25cm units that I used in my last car (worth about £150) and the sound was not much improved. However, when I used the standard speakers and a 4 channel amplifier that also came from my last car the sound was much better. I have not yet had the time to mount this amp properly - I was trying it out as an experiment - certainly worth doing!

David
The quality is trash! The power? who cares... Brand? VWs...
The stocks speakers are really bad... The A3 door was not
"designed" to have speakers on it! Whatever speakers you
put there, they will allways sound bad because the mid/low
speaker is on the floor and pointing the wrong direction. The
tweeter location isn't as good either... and the door resonates
at low frequencies... For sound, the A3 is just horrible...
If your car comes with a Blaupunkt unit, I recommend the
Focals Bora KX (about 240..250 euros in Portugal). These
speakers will have to be adapted to the door, and well, otherwise
they won't fit. These are perhaps the best speakers you can fit
without rebuilding the door. They will give you better performance
with an amplifier and subwoofer. But just with the head unit you can
have a good sound. Not power, but quality... The tweeter has a silk
dome that won't hurt your ears even when listening to CD. It's the
same tweeter used on the Mistral series.
To improve on this you'll need good equalization and will have to
find a way to stiffen the door... If you succeed please let us know...

I am not audiophile but the built-in speakers are crap. I drove a Nissan Micra before and its speakers (it only had 4) were far superior than in the A3.
I replaced all of them (6) with MB-Quart (www.mbquart.com) speakers and crossovers. The standard wiring is crap too so I added some thicker wires.
Actually I just wanted to have a decent minidisc player and a CD changer in my car and ended up with spending a lot of money for car hifi. I don't know if it is possible for the A3, but you get away much cheaper if you select the Bose sound system - AND you don't have any rattling noises afterwards because someone ripped panels away to get new speakers fitted.
