EDL is an electronic limited slip diff which works by applying a brake.
ASR is the traction control system which works by monitoring the ABS sensors, then cutting the engine power by cutting the voltage to the injectors, to provide less fuel, this is the same method used on the commercially available system by racelogic, I believe all the mechanics are there we just need to know which sensors to fool or which software to change.
look at pages 132 and 133 on your owners manual for reference then visit www.racelogic.co.uk for more info about traction control.

I was told by by dealer that the UK cars do but there is no switch on the dashboard to control its operation, but dealers will say anything to shut you up, won't they!

Hi John,

I am assuming that you have an a3 of some description (although cannot find a definate reference to that) and as such my understanding is that the a3 models up to and including the 1.8T come only with edl - If your car has asr then there will be a defeat switch on the dash.

I think I'm right in saying that ASR is fitted from the A4 model range (2.5TDI, 2.6, 2.8) upwards. As such ASR is a good system, I have driven the 2WD A4 V6 TDi, and on wet roads with full throttle the system was great. Sadly Audi, in its wisdom, denied the A3 such a system - which is a shame considering the very poor performance of EDL.

Please correct me If I'm wrong about the above

Regards

David

There is a reference to ASR in the owners manual for the A3 but that is switchable, the A3 was marketed as having traction control and I think if we haven't got ASR we've been had as you can hardly call a diff lock traction control cause it just locks the diff so both wheels could spin together, thats hardly controlling traction is it!

I think, if it hasn't got the switch, it probably hasn't got ASR.

I don't know, maybe the year 2000 model cars have it?! What year is your car?
