If anyone is interested in this cheap upgrade.

It took a while to find out but if you have an A3 with a concert head unit you can but the Panasonic 9060 CD changer (I got mine for £125) and an interface lead (Audi 98P from ICD - £50) and you have instantly saved roughly £200 on the audi standard fit price!

The changer is the same as audi provide but without the logo- you must be careful with the leads however as some do not allow random play.

Phone around for best prices

Great news David .I know that cheaper versions are available in the USA and I was going to check out various friend's travel plans!
I am a bit slow on the technical side--- what's the Audi 98 P lead --- sorry I realize it is an interface but who is this ICD ?
I could live without random play especially for a £200 saving.

Hi chris,

ICD is an electronics company that makes interface leads - the 98P is the interface lead that essentially turns a square plug on the CD changer into the round lead found as standard in the left side of the boot in most newish A3s.

I too investigated the possibility of a US player, clair parts will sell the actual audi version which does not require the lead but it is about $260 (about £160)+ shipping of about $100 - so it is not cheap, useful if a mate is travelling there though!

I have an excellent local audio dealer who even had the interface lead in stock, but most UK mail order companies can supply it too - negotiate on price, some wanted £100 for the lead alone.

I've put the link to clair parts below if it is any use..

Model number: 4B0-035-111

I have found out that the 9060 has been discontinued but there should be a few out there hence the good price.Best i've found to date)17th Feb) is £159
9061 is the newest version at £169 so the £159 doesn't look very competitive
Found that Autoleads (Halfords amoungst others) does the leads PC9-305 about £39
www.autoleads.co.uk for list vast numbers of leads ,adaptors and stockists that may be of use .
