I have a '99 1.8T QMS and it has started to making a squealing/shrieking noise at times when I let up on the clutch when in first gear. Does anyone have an idea what it might be??? I had the dealer tighten the fan belt thinking it might be that but I still hear the noise especially when I am stopped on a hill and start again. Please Help!! Thanks

if it is a squeek it is normal it is the clutch plate engaging the trany

I'll post here if they fix it since I just dropped it off for 5K mi. service. Sometimes the noise is so loud that it scares me. It sounds like you ran over a cat or something.

it is I squealing noise but only happens in first gear.

hopefully they can fix it esp. if I can better explain what I think might be wrong.
