Jetta III 1.8t by Momentum Motorsport in Port Coquitlam, BC.

Check the current (October) issue of European Car magazine. It features an "Oh my God that guy has way too much money" M3 built by Momentum Motorsport, as well as an article on a Eurosport (Anaheim, CA) Rabbit with a 1.8 20v engine. (no "T"). The article states that the current 1.8t engine in fact uses the same old 2.0l 16v short block, but with a 20v head. There was a post in the Performance Forum that said the same thing.

I hope this helps.

Yes, this is quite a straight forward swap using the Audi A3 components, as sourced from a few importers. Using the longitudinal A4/B5 components causes a lot of fitment issues.
However, the article did not say that the clock was the *same* 2.0l 16V or 8V that VW has been using for years, it said that the 1.8T block was *similar*. You cannot bolt a 1.8T head onto either of those blocks. There are a few coolant passages that overhang. The block is similar in the aspect that it has all the provisions for mounting in a variety of chassis.

Hey Todd,

Thanks. I know very little about the actual block, that was what I derived from the article. :-)

The engine in that pictured Jetta 3 actually came from an longitudely mounted A4, and you're right, fitment problems. That's why the intake manifold from the 1.8t Beetle was used.
