Does anyone know if the 2000 U.S. A4 has the drive by wire trottle?

What's the difference between "drive by wire" and the throttle being a fed input into the electronic fuel injection system? The computer already controls the actual amount of gas added to maintain air fuel ratios. Where does the additional "by wire" come in?

Drive by wire uses an electric motor to control the movement of the throttle plate (or butterfly) in the intake manifold. This process works in conjuction with EFI and the ignition timing to add one more engine control component to the engine's "computer". Rather than have a direct mechanical linkage (a cable from the accelerator pedal) to control the amount air entering the engine, the cable is replaced with a sensor on the accelerator peadal that sends a signal to the computer, which then sends a signal to an electric motor on the throttle valve. This is most commonly used in traction control systems to retard engine power electronically when wheel slippage is detected.
