I simply want my user registration to act as though I had registered from home, i.e. with my home email address. What does that have to do with my password?

If the software ever needs to send you email (you forgot your password, want the email on follow feature, etc) it can't, since the email you gave has been "spamified".

Damn spammers and there sneaky ways!!
