I have had my 5000S for 12 years. I bought it used and it has had many problems over the years. I'm comtemplating buying a 2000 A4, and I would like to find out if anyone is having serious problems with their A4.

That said, get the A4. You might want to get a '99 vs a '00 to save on cost and help the dealer clear out their lot.

I have had no problems with my car, like most others who post on this site. There are a few chronic problems that you should watch for (control arm bushings, c-piller "dent" and the infamous swirl marks for the anal) but the A4 is a fun, fast and overall reliable car you will thuroughly enjoy.

and now am the proud owner of an A4.
They're great, and yes they do have niggling problems, but all cars have their quirks.
Have you driven an A4 yet? WOW power difference, and handling difference, from the old mid-80's model.
I'll never tear my dad's hands off the wheel of the 1987 5000CSQT that he currently owns, but if you're due for a new car (sounds like it), then GO FOR IT!
If you want USED, there are many many A4 owners here selling their 1-3 year old cars hoping for a new S4 (about $40K). Check out the classifieds section here, or just post what options & year you're looking for, include your email address and be ready for posts!

Good luck shoppin! Test drives are the fun part...heh heh.

About your signature, the PES folks took the SC as an abbreviation, so your signature translates to (quattro, manual, super charger). I guess that you wanted to write QMS - AMS?

I've owned mostly VW's (and now Audis) my life (along with several
family and friends), and I would say they are slightly less reliable then
some other cars. So what? I'd rather enjoy my Audi 360 days out of
the year then some boring car (Honda Accord or Toyota Camry) for
365 days (actually, I haven't had a single problem with my A4 going
on one year, and the last VW I had never broke down until 100,000
miles).

I got the chip at a track event so I saved a bit off retail (I think retail is $400).
Marc at AMS will help ya-
949-515-1672. They're in Costa Mesa CA, I think you have to send your ECU (FedEx) and they send it back the next day.
I notice an increase at 2000-3000 RPM in 2nd & 3rd gear, there used to be a flat spot and it's gone now.
Was worth it to me!

The difference between the mid-80's Audis and todays Audis is monumental. Audis do have problems, like all cars, but they are still fantastic cars. If you buy a new car you will have an excellent 3 year/50K mile warranty, so that should help with your peace of mind. I have owned 6 Audis and I loved them all, all of them had some problems but generally all the problems were fixed.
