Not true...I've seen an Oldsmobile...I believe it was a Cutlass Supreme...but it was definitely an early to mid 80's full size Oldsmobile that ran on diesel. This was 1986 or so when I saw it, and it was already a few years old at that point. Did the article imply something else?

...they may be referring to is that VW/Audi developed TDi around that time, I think. TDi is "turbocharged-direct-injection." Turbocharged is not new, but the direct injection part is what practically revolutionized deisel engine technology. There are actually TDi equipped VW's found on the race course, and that says a lot about how much improved they are now! Anyway, I don't know that much about how it works, other than the fuel is precisely delivered, electronically to each cylinder, rather than having a mechanical injection system shooting fuel to the injectors. Bad description, huh? Anyone else know more? :-)
