Well I have been smuggly reading posts about this problem for the past 8 months, comfortable with my belief that my 98.5 would not suffer from this problem as surely VAG will have resolved it in later models(after all they're not like Ford or Chrysler are they?)Well so much for that bit of fantasy. The creaking started today@ 64k km.(approx.40k miles)Sure it will be covered by warranty but the next time around it won't be.
I wonder if this problem is as prevalent as postings indicate?Maybe we should use the power of our numbers to petition VAG to deal with this problem quickly and permanently and extend the warranty on replacement parts.Obviously we would need to enlist the assistance of the managers of this great site.Anyone agree?

they engineer a part that satisfies its requirement. I have less than 9000 miles on my 1.8TQMS and my car sounds like an '82 Camaro when driving on bumpy roads. Let's get this thing rolling. I'm in Halifax, Canada - a week or two ago I heard some mention of a Canadian recall of control arms but so far I've heard nothing more. We need to start a letter writing campaign to AOA and AOC. SOOOOOOOOOOO........... WHO'S IN FOR A REAL SOLUTION?

if this in any way can be characterized as a safety issue (and it would seem to be eventually), there is info/ a form at the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) for reporting such defects.

A few petitions there will get AoA's attention.

that the control arm issue is more pronounced in northern climates. He said that salt accelerates the wear on the control arms (they change about 10 a day). He also said that it's a good chance Audi won't do a recall as it's not safety related, only noise. Alas, I didn't get his name.
