has anyone had this problem at 3000 rpm? im also getting rattle in the console area as well..only at 3000rpm.. have 99.5 1.8t...set appointment with dealer to check but it wont be until next week.. just wondering if they are going to give me any crap..

This may not be your issue, but I've noticed a noise in my 99.5 1.8T at about 70mph (roughly 3000 RPM). However, it ONLY occurs on a fairly rough concrete highway span (Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in New Orleans). It seems the tires and road hit some sort of resonating combo at that speed and I get a kind of a humming noise until I either speed up or slow down. However, if I go back to black top, the sound is nowhere to be found. Could that be what you're experiencing?
